23rd Annual Summer Interdisciplinary Conference

Travel to Ramada Resort,
Kranjska Gora Slovenia

Note: It is a good idea to explore the area near Kranjska Gora with Google Maps, and Google Earth.

Kranjska Gora is at the north edge of Triglav National Park, close to where Italy, Austria and Slovenia meet. Visitors living close to this town may wish to drive to ASIC. Most attendees will fly to one of the nearby airports and travel by bus, shuttle, or some combination of train and bus, or by car rental.

The Ramada Resort by Wyndham (do not confuse this with the nearby hotel Ramada Hotel and Suites) is at Borovska Cesta 99, 4280 Kranjska Gora.

There closest international airport is that near the Slovenia capital, Ljubljana, near the city of Kranj. That airport is about 50 minutes by car from Kranjska Gora. There is also service by shuttle, bus and train and bus.

The next closest large international airport is Marco Polo airport at Venice, about 2 hrs 40 minutes by car.

There is a smaller airport at Klagenfurt Austria, about an hour by car.

Once in Kranjska Gora there are bus services that would enable visits to local attractions and activities. However most attendees would find it most convenient to have a car, due to the time constraints caused by the need to return to the hotel in time for the conference talks.

Center of Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora was first mentioned in written sources in 1326, but is believed to have been settled as early as the 11th century by Slovenes from Carantania. A railroad connection was built in 1870, unofficially starting the age of tourism. During the First World War, in 1916, Russian prisoners of war built a wooden chapel above the town commemorating their comrades killed in an avalanche while building a road over the Vršič Pass. Today, Kranjska Gora is a world-renowned ski resort in the winter and offers visitors an incredible array of outdoor activities in the summer. Excellent road accessibility makes it easy to visit other destinations like Bohinj, Bled, Bovec and even Ljubljana. In addition, Austria and Italy are a stone’s throw away.

At the time of construction of this website, there is no way to know if there will be any travel restrictions due to covid in the summer of 2023 but any attendees should of course keep track of the evolving situation when making travel arrangements. If there are travel restrictions in the country of origin or in Slovenia that would cause cancellation of travel plans to ASIC then lodging deposits and registration fees will be either refunded or credited for future use, at the attendee’s discretion. However, airline policies seem to change in ways impossible to anticipate, so attendees should consider appropriate trip cancellation insurance, refundable flights, or other safety measures.
